How to register VmWare ESXi server

Everyone know that VmWare ESXi server is free of charge but few of us knows where to get license key and how to apply it. Read this and you'll be the one who CAN.

First of all, license key is provided on the official VmWare site when you start ESXi downloading.

Next, to accomplish registration you need:
  • Install VmWare ESXi
  • Login to ESXi with the VMware Infrastructure Client
    (you may download it from the http://<your_vmware_esxi_ip>)
  • Go to section Inventionary -> tab Configuration -> Software -> Licensed Features -> License Source
  • In opened window check Use serial number and put the number you got there

  3. Thanks, it works! They have hidden it very well, I did it once and now I couldn't remember where it was. More, the ESXi messages are all misleading, have to google the message to get what's wrong!
